Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Sticky Rice

Begin by rinsing the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps achieve the desired sticky texture.

Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours, or ideally overnight. Drain the soaked rice before cooking.

Step 2: Steam the Rice

Prepare a steamer basket lined with cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel. Place the drained rice in the basket and steam it over boiling water for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until it becomes translucent and tender.

Step 3: Make the Coconut Sauce

While the rice is steaming, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar has completely dissolved. Do not let it boil. Reserve a few tablespoons of the coconut sauce for drizzling later.

Step 4: Combine Rice and Sauce

Once the sticky rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and pour the coconut sauce over it. Stir thoroughly to mix the rice with the sauce. Cover the bowl and let it sit for about 30 minutes to allow the rice to absorb the flavors.
